Name the observation before the explanation
Server acceptance tells you a receiving system accepted a message at a particular stage. A seed-placement test observes a controlled set of test addresses. Neither directly measures every subscriber’s experience. GlockApps presents inbox testing as a way to investigate placement; the interpretation still needs your sending context.
Use a result-to-action worksheet
Our suggested worksheet prevents a surprising result from becoming an unsupported diagnosis.
| Observation | Check next | Do not conclude yet |
|---|---|---|
| One provider differs | Route, timing and repeatability | Every subscriber at that provider is affected. |
| A message appears missing | Test completion and sending logs | The content alone caused it. |
| Authentication warning | Headers and configured sender | Changing the subject will solve it. |
| All seeds appear favorable | Actual campaign signals over time | All future messages will reach the inbox. |
Protect the baseline
Keep the original sample, route and test timestamp. Change one meaningful variable and record why you expect it to matter. If an ESP changes the sending pool or tracking domain automatically, note that uncertainty. A second result without a stable baseline can create more confusion than insight.
Escalate with evidence, not a score
When asking an administrator or provider for help, share the exact route, relevant redacted headers and the observed outcome. State what changed and what stayed constant. Do not circulate seed addresses, private message content or customer data in public support threads.
A question worth asking
How often should I test inbox placement?
Choose a cadence around meaningful changes and campaign risk, not an arbitrary daily quota. Keep routine baselines distinct from incident-driven retests.
